There is something that challenges your taste buds in a positive way when you use spices that are out of your traditional cuisine. In this case in the Mexican traditional cuisine you rarely use aniseed with rice but let me tell you, you have been missing out because this rice is very aromatic and flavorful. The best part is that it literally uses 5 ingredients and that is it. All i Say is that it takes one time making this rice and you will find yourself making it at least 1x a week for yourself and your family. P.S. My kids love love this rice!
Ingredients
- 1 cup jasmine rice (carb)
- ½ purple onion
- 1 tablespoon of aniseed
- Drizzle of oil of choice
- 2 cup of water
Notes
I love to use jasmine rice because it becomes very grainy when fully cooked. You can use any white rice of choice
Instructions

Here are the main ingredients for your Aromatic rice. For the rice you need to use purple onion and aniseed. These ingredients cannot be replaced.

You will drizzle some oil of choice to your pan (I used vegetable oil), finely chop ½ of your purple onion, and add to your pan with your 1 tablespoon of aniseed. You will move nonstop until your onion looks nice and translucent/soft. You do not want to burn the onion nor the aniseed so make sure your heat is on medium and you are moving it constantly.

Once your onion is translucent/soft you will add your rice and stir for about 3 minutes. You do not want your rice to turn a golden color. You will want to keep it looking white. You will then add your 2 cups of water and a little bit of salt to taste. You will cover, put on low, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. And just like that your Aromatic rice will be ready to get in your belly.
